Comunn na Piobaireachd (New Zealand) Inc. was established in 1957 to foster and encourage the study and performance of classical Highland bagpipe music in New Zealand. It was the first overseas body to be affiliated with the Piobaireachd Society of Scotland. The society's purpose is to further the knowledge, study, teaching and playing of piobaireachd. The Society is funded through donations, grants, sponsorship, fundraising and membership fees.

The society supports the playing of piobaireachd in New Zealand by running piping seminars, teaching, provision of piping scholarships, and running solo piping competitions. Commun Na Piobaireachd runs one of the worlds premier Piobaireachd competitions awarding, Clasps, Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals. The Society also holds seminars and events such as tune writing contests, recitals, and online solo competitions.
